Reflecting on the not-so cozy side of bed time prayers…you know, the ones that start out with processing some “messier” aspects of a day…
It’s actually a deeply satisfying experience to lay it all out before the Lord and let Him guide us deeper into His Truth. But it requires an honesty that comes from knowing we aren’t enough on our own strength. That we still mess up and daily need to cling to His grace.
The Father’s heart is to discipline His Children, to draw us deeper into His grace. Refining the junk to bring out the glory within.
But the refining takes a willingness on our parts. To be known and to trust the process. He is faithful.
It’s easy to talk.
Spill those beans heavenward, when it’s a one-way conversation.
It’s harder to hear.
Especially when the hearing may cause discomfort.
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24 NIV
To be vulnerable
Before the One who already knows
To be humble
Desiring to be fully known
And thereby fully restored…
The conversation gets real.
The relationship gets intimate.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Psalm 32:8 NIV
The Shepherd’s rod is our comfort and guide.
It corrects our course
It instructs with wisdom,
Which is more precious than jewels.
Humility to hear the knock,
To open the door,
Is to be blessed.
Exposing the muck
To clear it out
To let the glory shine through
Now that’s a beautiful thing…
Oh, that we might know the Lord!
Let us press on to know him.
He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn
or the coming of rains in early spring.
Hosea 6:3 NLT
